Ok, at first glance I was a bit tentative. I'm not a fan of contempory romances--they're just not my flavor--nor do I normally enjoy reading stories that re-write Pop Culture. [I mean, it's an historical fact who has won an Academy Award(c) since their inception. Can't pretend around that.] However, Author Charlotte Boyett-Compo's WINDSTAR blew me away. It's a tender and emotional story about imperfect people surviving in an imperfect world, trying to live and love among the dog-eat-dog world of our Post-Millenium Current Era. It is also a brave portrayal of a May-December relationship set against the unrelenting eye of 24-Hour news channels and relentless paparazzi. Can you imagine how horrid that must be? Relationship are fragile, the human heart so vulnerable, and yet to have every inevitable error emblazoned on the front page of, well, pretty much everything. How can two people possibly overcome that?
Angie is a lovely character, one that is sure to touch the heart of every mature woman who has ever looked in the mirror and hated her hips. Rory is every woman's heartthrob but is completely believable. And yes, it is possible to be lonely and vulnerable, even self-hating, while the rest of the world is in love with your outward appearance. Beauty is fleeting. Does anyone remember that there's *people* beneath that multi-million dollar skin? I don't think we need a list of self-destructive items/behaviors available to our "elite;" you know what they are. But I'll get off my soap box.
For those who want a non-traditional romance, indeed perhaps a May-December or a romance with a Rubenesque Heroine, this book is yours. I was held to the story from page one, and didn't leave the chair until it was done. I also cried. Twice. A beautiful story, one that was crafted with skill and awareness. Well done again, Charlee!

Ms. Boyett-Compo’s character Keith is one of the funniest that I have ever read. His childish behavior and antics drew me to this story and kept me amused. Angela seemed to enjoy Keith’s antics, but sometimes it must have made her very tired! The initial use of the dream sequences helped the reader understand Angela and Keith’s true feelings...I look forward to reading other stories by Ms. Boyett-Compo.
