A gripping story of how far one person will go to destroy another. In the Wind's Eye is a strong, deeply emotional saga with all the mystery, deceit, and treachery of the old south's heritage. Not until the very last are all the loose ends tied up, leaving the reader to know this is a story they will never forget.... Ms. Boyett-Compo is an extemely gifted author with the skill to put together a truly magnificent story. Rich in the flavor of the old south, she has managed, with In the Wind's Eye, to take the reader on an impassioned journey to hell's door and back. A dramatic saga filled with enough betrayal and manipulation to last a lifetime. Truly spectacular, this is a fantastic writer worth the praise and effort of reading.

I finished reading it yesterday. I HAD to find out what happened to Sin! Wow, you had every twist and turn in his story. I read it while at work where I face a computer screen all day and found it hard to drag myself away from the story. It was terrific!

Lovers of historical romance will revel in this tale by Charlotte Boyett-Compo. The vivid descriptions bring an immediate sense of place, and I found myself quickly transported to a world of passion, hatred, jealousy, vengeance, treachery, and unrequited love. This is a long book, but I had no trouble sitting in front of my monitor while reading. The story is so compelling that I found the hours at the computer whirling past. The characters are captivating, the writing smooth and lush. I was drawn in by the starcrossed tale of Sinclair and Ivonne, and simply could not stop reading until all the twists and turns in the complex plot were resolved. IN THE WIND'S EYE is a treat not to be missed.

4 Stars (Highest rating:Outstanding book, engrossing, a classic)
Charlotte Boyett-Compo has a hit with her e-novel, "In the Wind's Eye." It has all the components of a great novel that will stand the test of time: plot twists, a multigenerational dysfunctional family, slavery, war, secrets and even murder. The reader will be drawn into the story starting with the quote by Emily Dickinson on chapter one's title page. A different quote begins each of the 40 chapters, enhancing each one effectively. As the words flow into your head, you will learn of things that will shock you, thus keeping you glued to your computer screen, just waiting to see what will happen next to these characters. For some characters, the reader will genuinely feel compassion and/or pity; for others perhaps animosity, anger and even confusion. The book is that well written. This is a story that will stay with you while you are reading it, and days after you have finished. For some, 576 pages is a long read, but with this book, you will be left wishing for that many more. I highly recommend it. It is one of the better books of this genre that I have read in a while.

Of Ages Past--The Online Magazine for Historical Fiction
Yes, readily do I admit, I am jaded. Nothing bores me to tears more so than a novel (supposedly an action-packed novel set during the era of the American Civil War) that does not live up to its hype. The promise of righteous heroes and wicked villains, in-depth research and a flair for period speech, nail-biting suspense and chills galore, even steamy love scenes, mean virtually nothing to me after countless disappointments. It is rare, then, when a book lives up to expectations. In The Wind's Eye is one of those rare books!.....Overall, within this thick tome, we are treated to a page-turning, spell-binding tour de force of murder and mayhem, suicide and madness, victory and defeat...I can hardly wait for a sequel. And please, Ms. Boyett-Compo, give us a sequel. I beg you from the depths of my soul Gods-be-da@#ed!

IN THE WIND'S EYE is reminiscent of the historical romance sagas of Bertrice Small. If you'd like a break from all the light historicals that currently flood the market, then this is a book you won't want to miss. Being one who's always loved a big, layered story, IN THE WIND'S EYE gave me everything I could have asked for, and didn't let go until the very last page. The characters, on occasion, use dialogue that sounds a bit more 1990's than 1860's, but the scope of the story itself, and the depth of emotion in the characters, more than made up for it. Sinclair McGregor and the women who love him weave an intense story of darkness, of desire, and of a love that defies all. Set aside a whole day (because you won't want to put this one down) and break out a box of tissues. I hope there are more like this from Ms. Boyett-Compo!

Sinclair McGregor should be happy to return to Savannah. The war is over, he is no longer being brutalised at the Yankee-run prison camp. Everything would be wonderful, if only his fiancee, Ivonne, had waited for him. Instead she is another man's wife and there isn't anything Sinclair can do about it. Ivonne and Sinclair had been in love since childhood, everyone in Savannah had known they would marry. Only Sinclair's gallant desire not to leave her a widow had stopped them marrying before he left for war.
If losing the love of his life wasn't bad enough, the winds of disaster had much more in store for the returning hero. In his absence, his childhood home "Windlass" was sold for back taxes. Windlass was the most beautiful and productive plantation in Georgia and now it belonged to Edward Delacroix. For many years, Edward has been consumed with hatred for Sinclair, and he bought the property solely for revenge. Perhaps that was also the reason he had stolen Ivonne and made her his wife.
This complex and intriguing romance/suspense novel has the most devious plot twists. With a superb cast of villains, headed by a conniving, evil matriach, there is so much retribution going on that Sinclair will be lucky to survive. Ms Boyett-Compo has done an incredible job and created a masterpiece of fiction.

4.5 Stars
Rory Sinclair MacGregor, Sin to friends and family, has been through hell and back during the Civil War. A Southerner, he was wounded and spent time in a horrific Union prison camp. However, that's nothing compared to what he faces upon his return to Georgia. His lifelong love, whom he planned to marry, has instead married his mortal enemy, Edward Delacroix. And if that's not enough, she is also pregnant. And if THAT is not enough, Delacroix has also bought up Sinclair's beloved family estate, sold for taxes. Loveless and landless, Sinclair falls into the thrall of his evil, scheming grandmother, and has only just begun finding out the shocking secrets of his life and her manipulations.
Although subtitled, "A Civil War Romance," In the Wind's Eye is not, really. It takes place after the war and has more in common with V.C. Andrews' Petals on the Wind than Margaret Mitchell's Gone With the Wind. While Sinclair is certainly the hero of the story, his lifelong love, Ivonne, shows up only intermittently, and the story focuses on him and his family more than his relationship with her. Nevertheless, the book is an entertaining read. Its length (500+ pages) allows for a well-developed plot with many unexpected twists and turns along the way. While many secondary characters are introduced and developed, the focus never leaves Sinclair. Ms. Boyett-Compo writes with great energy and her villains are truly evil, particularly the grandmother. Some of the dialogue between plotting bad guys made chills run down my back! If you are a fan of convoluted Southern gothic drama, you will enjoy In the Wind's Eye.

Rating: 9.5 (Note: To date, I've never given a 10. I rarely give 9)
Although Sinclair has just returned the war, his mind filled with thoughts of his love Ivonne. What he finds is that now his home and his love belong to his enemy. Unfortunately, Sinclair doesn't know who his enemy really is. As Sinclair is forced to get on with his life, misunderstanding and hate continue to threaten to annihilate Sinclair.
Although When I read the first chapter of this story, I though I knew exactly where it was headed -- another formula story. Instead, Boyett-Compo has weaved a tremendously complex story with more twists and turns than an excited snake. I was completely unprepared for the complexity of this story. While romance is not my thing, this story kept my rapt attention from start to finish. If you like historical fiction, you'll find this one to be outstanding.
Although Boyett-Compo writes in a easy to read style. Furthermore, the readability is enhanced by her thorough knowledge of the places and times she incorporates into her story. Southern readers will enjoy reading about recognizable places. Boyett-Compo's plot is thorough and amazingly evenly focused from start to finish despite the complexity of the story. The twists and turns are fairly well connected with only one "too" amazing coincidence. The characters are well developed. In fact, her character development is key to the complex nature of the book.
Although Overall, despite not really liking historical romance, I'd have to say this was a great book. On a scale of one (1) to ten (10), I'd give this book a 9.5.

Paranormal Listserv
IN THE WIND'S EYE is an exciting Reconstruction Era romance that may seem to follow the rules of the sub-genre, but actually is extremely complex and filled with twists. The story line is exciting, yet very dark as it brings to life the aftermath of the Civil War on the losers. Anyone who takes pleasure from a story about that period will find the deep layers of Charlotte Boyett-Compo's skills turn her plot into a triumphant complex historical fiction.
Even though this is not a paranormal, it has some of the best writing I have ever seen. I predict this author will make it big time in the near future.

IN THE WINDS EYE is an awesome story! Ms. Boyett-Compo has carved out so many twists and turns you can't help but be exhilarated by the ride. The surprises that you find in each consecutive chapter will hold you captivated till the shocking end. No character is safe and that makes it that much more thrilling to read.
Ms. Compo has quite the way with writing so many interesting layers of a story, each one holds you and compels you to keep turning those pages. A reviewer could never explain everything going on in one of her stories, and this one is no different. I highly recommend IN THE WINDS EYE. In The Wind's Eye is a riveting tale of love, hate, loss, sorrow, and revenge, set in a time period of tumultuous change for those who lived in the south after losing the Civil War. We follow Sinclair on his adventures as he is manipulated by the many women who become a part of his life. But everything he does, he does to save and protect the only woman he's ever loved - his beloved Ivonne.
Sinclair's adventures keep the reader turning page after page in anticipation of what lies ahead for him. The plot twists, character personalities, and unexpected ending are worth reading this novel to the very end.
Ms. Charlotte Boyett-Compo is an accomplished weaver of words, spinning a powerful tale full of interesting, believable characters, steady conflict, and unique story lines.

"In The Wind's Eye" by Charlotte Boyett-Compo tells the story of Sinclair McGregor and his return home after fighting in the Civil War. He discovers that his fiancée has married another, and that his inheritance was sold for back taxes. Robbed of the one true love of his life, he is forced into a marriage he does not want. At night, nightmares of battles lost and a bullet piercing his chest rule his mind. Sinclair is a tortured and haunted man, living out his days in fear, illness, and continual strife. Boyette-Compo weaves an interesting and complex plot around Sinclair. The story is full of twists and turns, keeping the proverbial late night oil burning for the reader, who just has to find out what happens to this unfortunate soul.
....Boyett-Compo succeeds brilliantly with the plot.
While the complexity of Sinclair McGregor as a character was at times perplexing, the novel is quite entertaining. It is a perfect novel to curl up with on a quiet, rainy afternoon.

Women love Sinclair McGregor and always have. He is handsome, of course. Even the scars acquired in the war seem to make him more appealing. After getting to know Sinclair, I love him too. I long to hold him and kiss him and make it "all better" for him.
Just about the time you think you have this story figured out, you'll find you haven't. This story twists and turns and just keeps happening. I promise you that the ending will totally amaze you. Only after the surprise ending, will you realize the subtle clues that were so cleverly woven into this story….. no fair peaking at the ending. That would spoil the fun of getting there and discovering that you had no idea how this book was going to end.
