War, torture, love and lust come in many forms in this story; a sort of Rysalian Shakespearean tragedy. Charlotte Boyett-Compo's "BloodWind" whisks you up and away and doesn't let go, taking you on an incredible ride of such intensity and emotion that you'll be exhausted and dizzy once the ride has finished. Abduction from another galaxy has never sounded so attractive. Especially if the abductor is Charlotte Boyett-Compo's Kamerone Cree.

Millenium Science Fiction and Fantasy

This is an incredible book one whose characters were so vividly drawn that they return to haunt me every now again. I certainly won t forget them any time very soon especially since I plan to reread this book when the next book in the series comes out. BLOODWIND took my breath away, gave me an adrenaline high, and whipped me through one of the better science-fiction reads of the year, maybe of many years one containing a excellent love story as well.... The complexity of BLOODWIND s plot can t be amply explained in a short review, especially since Ms. Boyett-Compo s world building, characterization of some rather alien forms, and the agony of the tortured hero all need to be read in their entirety to be fully appreciated. And appreciate it I did fully, completely, and achingly. This is the first book in a series and I would recommend it to anyone who likes SF, romance, or an absolutely engrossing read. It s a great book, and the cover is incredible, a brooding red sky filled with a pair of sorrowing green eyes, and Cree chained in space, alone with the sky and the eyes.

E-books are most definitely on the up, and with books like BloodWind to help them get established, it's hardly surprising. This story held my attention to the end, and I was sad to finish it. Thank goodness there is a sequel or two. There is some violence, but it is well placed. Charlee Boyett-Compo is a talented writer who has the ability to weave a wondrous and believable fantasy. She is one to be watched.

Filled with suspense, sharply drawn characters, the evils of a corrupt government--set against the backdrop of space travel--Blood Wind is a panoramic novel that is hard to put aside and leaves images locked inside your head long after the novel is finished. This lady has talent! The second of Charlee's books which I have had the pleasure to read, Blood Wind is a tour de force of intrigue, action and steamy romantic heat. Watch out for her, because she is going to go far.

Science Fiction Romance Newsletter

From the beginning, this book grabbed me by the throat and refused to let go. The premise is a well-structured variant on "Mars needs women,"...... The soul of this story is Kamerone Cree, raised since infancy to kill at his Empire's command. Due to a convoluted series of internested plots (I can't explain more without giving away vital plot twists), he is forced to undergo behavioral modification therapy -- a polite way of saying psychological torture and subliminal brainwashing -- to make him fall in love with the heroine, Dr. Bridget Dunne. Except he is incapable of the emotion. So they try to build it out of the emotions he is capable of -- lust, anger, jealousy, etc. His redemption comes in brief but powerful moments, such as the unforgettable scene when he forces a terrified Dr. Dunne to admit that she will do anything he says, even let him use her body however he wishes, and when she braces for his attack, he leans forward, kisses her forehead, then leaves the room. The torture scenes are excellently written, and if you can read Anne Bishop's work, you'll have no problem. They're mild by comparison.

This was not an easy novel to read. It has, violence, slavery, and torture. But if you are tired of the sugary sweet romances widely available then this is a must read. A totally new concept in romance, this book crosses bountries usually avoided, which makes it such a fascinating read....If you only read one E-Book start with this one. It is a totally engrossing story and one I highly recommend.

ROMANCE BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS

Rating: A-

Ms. Boyett-Compo creates a visual alien society with enough signposts so even Terrans are able to find their way! But more than an S/F romance, BloodWind is an action adventure romance, with enough action your heart could be pumping as though you'd just outraced a were-tiger and visual enough to have you looking over your shoulder for danger. But BloodWind is not for the faint of heart. The alien rituals are cruel and often violent and there are detailed descriptions - again visual enough to make the reader wince.

Grab a coffee, curl up for a trip to an alien world and discover a love wider than the universe in BloodWind.

RAVEN'S REVIEWS

Finally! A torture scene I can recommend to all my friends. Given my pet peeves, you can imagine what a joy this was.

This book starts off heavy on character and low on plot, then switches, providing overall a satisfying read for an angst junkie like me. The only drawback is that the ending begs for a sequel. Luckily, that sequel could not possibly be a repeat of the first book, so we can look forward to all new ways of driving the characters insane. I can't wait :).

Fantasy Today

Charlotte Boyett-Compo takes the reader on an adventure full of romance and intrigue. Kamerone Cree, a Reaper, the highest ranking warrior in the Ministry of Acquisitions, is accused of insubordination. Captain Cree has been programmed since birth to follow orders. He is not to think, feel, or question. The Military Tribunal sentences Cree to Behavior Modification and a month on a penal colony.

Little does Cree realize he is being delivered into the hands of the Resistance when he arrives at the Behavior Mod unit. Cree meets and falls for Dr. Bridget Dunne. Kamerone Cree is unaware the Behavior Mod Unit is bringing him face to face with his humanity and love.

Boyett-Compo captures the reader with the first sentence of her fantasy romance novel and does not let the reader go until the last page. The pace is filled with tense moments, fun adventure and intrigue. The reader follows Cree and Bridget coming to terms with his humanity and their love while helping the Resistance. The intrigue is riveting. I usually can second-guess where the author is going in any book I read. Boyett-Campo put a stop to that. Whenever I thought the characters would do one thing she would have them do another. I love books like this. It takes a lot to keep my interest and Boyett-Compo does just that.

Hael Sejm is the perfect villainess. Sejm is evil personified. A villainness one loves and hates. Boyett-Campo shows exactly where Hael Sejm is coming from. We see the world through her eyes more then once. The back-story of all characters in the book is fascinating and placed in the exact spot it should be. BloodWind is a smooth adventure into fantasy romance blending fantasy worlds with the real world.

Boyett-Compo takes us from the world of Rysalian Prime to Earth, specifically Grinnell and Kellogg Iowa and back again flawlessly as she weaves her tale of intrigue and love.

She brings us into her characters lives with ease and makes us care what happens to each and every one. BloodWind is definitely a book to read.

Louisa's Magical Romance Reading

3 out of 4 Hearts: A good read, an author to watch out for

And so begins Bridget and Cree's life together. Neither of them realising just how many people are a part of the resistence and how much danger they are in. Nor do they realise just how strong their feelings for each other will become; and in a world where everything is monitored there will be no way to hide the depth of their feelings from others.

Without giving too much of the story away I have to say that the story of this novel is very complex and at times I found myself flicking back through the pages to re-read parts. It is a novel that really makes you think.

In this masterfully told futuristic, the Empire's Prime Reaper, Kamerone Cree, has been sentenced to two weeks of active reinforcement in the Behavioral Modification Unit by the powers-that-be. He's innocent of the crime they sentence him for. After all, he's the Reaper Captain, the most feared man in the Empire. He's also the one who's spent his entire life conditioned to live and die for the Empire. But someone's out to get him. And he knows who it is.

This is a gritty, intricate futuristic tale, with exceptionally well-drawn characters whose conflicts and fears are absolutely gut-wrenching. Definitely a page-turner, and I was completely swept up into the world......I loved Kamerone and Bridget. And I look forward to reading more of Charlotte Boyett-Compo's work! Well done!

Review #15

Bloodwind is an engaging combination of science fiction, suspense, and romance. It is a love story between a being known as a Reaper, a humanoid genetically manipulated to be the best killing machine and a woman who has survived dislocation from her own planet Earth and years of subsequent abuse.

Captain Kamerone Cree, one of six Elite warriors had "enjoyed an autonomy unprecedented in Rysalian history. Whatever he desired, he received. What he said was declared law. What he did was never questioned. Until now. On this morning, of all mornings, no one would want to admit they had seen him standing outside the closed doors of the Court of Military Inquiry."

It is here that we begin. It is here that Captain Cree begins to lose his identity as a killing machine. The sci-fi frame story is that of conquered worlds and a select few working within the establishment, bound to an ideology of revolution, committed to overthrow it. They believe their door to this revolution is to compromise this leader, Kamerone Cree. They resort to the oldest of techniques: making a man fall in love with a woman, although here it is done using various upscale bio-torture devices. With the sophisticated tools of a complex society at their fingertips, the thing that is Cree is sabotaged; the love of Bridgett, a woman in the B-Mod Unit who has helped him through his "punishments" is instilled in him; and the stage is set for traitorous deeds and a political power play. As is the way of revolution, there is much that is left unsaid; much beneath the surface which runs foul with the polluted streams of ambitions and desires.

Ms. Boyett-Compo involves us in both the heroes, male and female, and draws us into their lives Bloodwind is an interesting story.

5 stars

Captain Kamerone Cree is the Prime Reaper - head of the most lethal killing unit any world has ever known. Programmed by birth, his Government has wiped out any tender emotions that would make their elite force vulnerable.

Not only are the Reapers feared by their enemies, they are feared by their own society. And no wonder, cursed at birth the Reapers are only partially 'human'. With a resemblance to both vampires and werewolves, these men need to drink blood survive. When they enter "Transition" their bodies lose all trace of humanity, transforming them into fanged monstrosities consumed with bloodlust and an overwhelming desire to feed.

To compensate for their cruel upbringing and as a reward for their unswerving loyalty to the Empire, the Rysalian Government awards them with almost unlimited wealth and power. Which is why Cree's summons to the Court of Military Inquiry is so unexpected. His conduct has been above reproach, his missions successful and his loyalty unswerving. Even more unwarranted is his punishment - two weeks of Active Reinforcement.

The Behavioral Modification Unit is reserved for those whose loyalty to the Empire needs reinforcing. Cree has done nothing disloyal, yet he has been sentenced to two weeks of torture at the Government Facility.

So why has Cree suddenly fallen from grace?

The only answer is the Resistance, worthless females rebelling against their kidnapping and slavery. And why him? How will loyalty reinforcement further their cause? Unfortunately Cree is about to find out, and he won't like the answers.

Mrs Boyett-Compo has created an outstanding work of fiction. Her characters are complex and believable; her world is new and exciting and the plot keeps you riveted.

SF Site and MEviews

Boyett-Compo's fan are many and vocal. This powerful novel provides more than enough testimony to account for her loyal following. An erotic love story, a space opera, an account of corruption on a universal scale -- Bloodwind is a enthralling read from the first paragraph.

(she) has taken a familiar scenario and made it into something more gripping and realistic than any of its predecessors. A civilization needs fertile women and takes a very direct route to obtaining them. Anything in the region of civil rights is out-the-door. The elaborate military machine charged with snatching the women appears an unstoppable force. The most lethal weapon in their arsenal is Kamarone Cree, the Iceman.

Boyett-Compo builds a world that, alien is it may be, is almost photo-realistic in its depiction. Every character is vibrantly alive, even the most inhuman seems to have been modeled on an actual person. There is never a moment when the reader feels a break with this created reality.

It s a gripping, fast-paced thrill-ride. If all of Boyett-Compo s books are this rivetting, you might want to start saving for a complete collection. You may never have been as emotionally involved in a book before. It s an sensation you ll want to experience again and again.

Mystic Visions

4.5 Moons

Tired of being forcefully removed from their homes, the women of Rysalia Prime have banded together to overthrow the government. In order to succeed in their quest, the women must have the warriors on their side. To this end, the women also know that if Reaper Kamerone Cree sides with them the other warriors will join him.

Chosen by the Resistance women to lead their battle, Kamerone Cree is a warrior dedicated to the sanctity of the Empire. Yet after undergoing brutal punishment for a crime he did not commit, Kamerone finds himself dealing with the emotions he has been trained to suppress. As Kamerone learns to deal with these strange feelings, he also learns to love.

Ms. Boyett-Compo has created a wonderful world, full of life and excitement. The twists and turns plotwise are sure to entrance, while Kamerone's relationship with the woman he loves will bring smiles and tears. Be forewarned, some of the descriptions of the punishments that Kamerone Cree is forced to endure are a bit descriptive. However, this is not a novel to be missed. I give it 4 1/2 moons.

The Rose and Thorn Literary Ezine

The eternal battle of the sexes rages on and this time it is fought among the stars.

Charlotte Boyett-Compo mingles the threads of ancient Roman history with Celtic myths of vampires and highland music to forge a world, an Empire, and a love among the stars. Although Kamerone Cree, Rysalian Prime Reaper, and Dr. Bridget Dunne form the central focus of Bloodwind, they are the sword tip upon which a galaxy and an empire turns. Bridget, hungry for the comforts and familiarity of home, falls irrevocably for the animal she feared and hated in Cree, even to offering her life’s blood to save him from death, until she is the Empire he willing sacrifices his principles and his way of life to preserve. Add a rebellion of women stolen from nearby systems and Earth divided against themselves and the stranglehold of a despotic empire which has grown fat on hate and fear and you have a tale of dark myth with an even darker end.

A dark and often disturbing tale of an alien race and their plundering of Earth, this novel also explores the fine line between humanity and animal. With Ms. Boyett-Compo’s characteristic engaging story-telling, she has woven a tale not easy to put down. Some readers might be offended by graphic torture situations and violence, however they combine with very real emotions and are integral to the story she tells. Terrie Templemon for Amazon.com

Characterization -- wow. Ms. Boyett-Compo did an excellent job here. By the time I completed the book, I felt as if the characters were personal acquaintances of mine -- no small feat. I could easily see them in my mind's eye, and their actions seemed plausible considering their personalities. The scenes were described in such detail that you felt as if you were there witnessing the events as they happened. Captain Cree's interactions with Bridget were sizzling...sigh. Even though feared by most as a dangerous man, he treated her with kid gloves. Hot, hot, hot. But, when angered or when you're not on his "good" list, watch out! Complexities were weaved into it (the plot) which made it more interesting, and keeps you turning the pages. This book has adventure, danger, romance, and intrigue.

This is a very good book that I highly recommend. Why? because I finished it a little over a week ago and I still wake up thinking about Captain Cree and Bridget. That to me is the sign of a darned good book. I plan on reading the sequels to this book, and other books by this author. (This is my second book, and the first one is what sent me in search for more.) Good job Ms. Boyett-Compo, you've got a fan.

BLOODWIND, the first novel in the "Wind Demon" trilogy, is an exciting science fiction tale that uses romance and vampire elements to enhance a strong plot. The story line never slows down as readers observe an advanced technological society using its science to control and change people. Cree has many vampire traits, but love is not supposed to be in his genetic make- up. Does he love Bridget, an intrepid heroine who turns his bark into more than his bite, because of science or his heart? Charlotte Boyett-Compo has written a fabulous novel that will leave readers thirsting for books two and three.

Note This is one of the best new authors I have come across in a long time. Her storytelling abilities are brilliant and I can't wait to read the next books in this series or anything ele she writes. Don't pass on this book. It is well worth waiting for.

Scribe's World: Another Look

5 Stars

Wow, talk about a powerful book! If anyone is great at creating nasty characters, it's Charlotte Boyett-Compo. She doesn't just create one, she creates whole groups of them, each nastier than the first. And poor Cree, what that man had to suffer at the hands of these women and one just plain nasty Brother... Let me tell you, this is one book I just couldn't put down. The descriptions were vivid, without slowing down the pace, and the sections of history were written in a way that gave information without "teaching" or boring the reader. And, there's enough of a relationship in the story to please romance readers, but this is definitely dark fantasy--not fantasy romance. It's way too dark to be classified as a romance, but boy is it good. As always, Ms. Boyett-Compo didn't disappoint. If you feel, like me, that the best books tend to be those that torture the heroes the worst, definitely pick up BloodWind or any of Ms. Boyett-Compo's Wind stories. You won't regret it.

Eternal Night

This is the first book I have ever read that has been described as SF/Romance. As my usual taste centres on golden age SF with authors such as Asimov, Heinlein and Clarke, I have always been a little wary of the romance element of the story being the driving element and the SF a side issue. But that is not the case here. This book has murders, revenge, touches of spiritualism, alien cultures, vampire like beings and conpiracies all thrown into the mix and little or no padding to slow the pace of the plot.

This is a well written tale, the author has created characters that get you involved. You end up rooting for the main characters, sympathising with them, and just as importantly you deisre the defeat of the story's "Bad Guys". This author knows how to play a reader's emotions and writes a very engaging story. This is a good introduction to a series, the universe she has created here has the scope for many more tales.

I started reading the print version Sunday evening and was only going to read "a little while."

Yeah, sure! I was completely gripped by the story. It has such power and depth, I had to keep reading! My husband was watching TV, but I mentally tuned it out as I followed Kam and Brigid's increasingly horrific experiences, and Kam's struggle against, with, and finally toward the human side of his nature. This story is not for the weak-hearted, but oh, my Charlotte Boyett-Compo's words sing and flow and draw the reader into a totally compelling experience.

I read through 60 Minutes, Who Wants to Be A Millionaire, and when my husband went to bed, I "turned off" the final episode of La Femme Nikita, because I JUST HAD to see what happened next in BLOODWIND! I finished at 11:30 that night, even though I knew I had to get up at 6 the next morning. I can hardly wait for the sequel.

Magnificent story, fast moving with just enough love and sex to be considered a romance. The character are so well written and "real", that the reader hurts right along with Kamerone and feels the loneliness of Bridget when she is confined to Kamerone's quarters and he is away, worry any time either is in danger, and thrill to every love scene.

I don't usually read futuristic romance but I'm hooked on this Reaper series. Another winner for this author. "Way to go, Charlee." Keep these wonderful stories coming.

Ms. Compo has done it again. Four and a half stars to this exceptional writer of dark, fantasy fiction. The slow evolution of killer, to a man as honorable as any warrior has ever fought will thrill your heart, and leave you gasping as each battle is fought, and with each trial, and progession overcome as you watch the lover grow, and the man evolve.

Bloodwind is my favorite novel yet. Filled with intrique, suspense, and sensuality. It opens your heart to the dark hero, Kamerone, and lets him in so slowly, you find yourself more than half in love him when the novel is finished. Your heart will clench, your soul will ache, and your body will tighten with each scene, each description of the tortured hero's life until you want to weep for all he was, and weep yet again for all he can be. A story you will revisit, a man you won't forget.

Miss this one, and you'll miss a hero that will rise above all others in your heart.

Readers of science fiction, romance and vampire stories will all enjoy the way she has melded these genres together to give us an unique novel. The Reapers are not vampires in the sense that most people think of them, but they do crave and drink blood at times. The descriptions of the universe Ms. Boyett-Compo has created are vivid and detailed, enabling the reader to clearly see the places she is describing. Her plot is unusual with none of the cliche aspects found so often in books today, and her characters are three-dimensional people whom the reader can believe in. BloodWind by Charlotte Boyett-Compo is an action packed story filled with romance, adventure, sinister and evil plots and one that you'll have a hard time putting down because the plot is so intense you "just have to know" what is going to happen next. This book grabs you from page one and does not let go until you reach the very end. Ms Boyett-Compo did a wonderful job creating a believable world and creating characters that you come to feel like you know. The hero, while very much an alpha, was a man that stirred feelings of compassion for all that he had been through and was continuing to go through. He was also a man who you had to admire for his strong will, guts, determination and finally for his strong possessive feelings towards the heroine. The heroine was a women who fit Kamerone quite well and one who was able to handle this strong alpha man with no problem. The love they found for one another was unbelievable and just made you give a little sigh. This is one story I will have to highly recommend and one that should not be missed. I look forward to reading Ms Boyett-Compo's other stories in the Wind series.

Mind-boggling is the only word that comes to the mind after reading this book!

Vampires, shape shifters, witches, time travel, futuristic setting, you name it BloodWind has it. In the beginning, the story is full of chaos and utter confusion. But as the story continues, everything gets sorted out and you marvel at the concept Charlotte has come up with. The saga is astonishing and staggering. There are so many things happening in the book, that you require full concentration so as to not miss any of it. The characters are well outlined and the scene setting is clearly defined. It is sure to make you gasp in fear and wonder if there is race like Rysalians. The imagination is that powerful. All in all, a spectacular read.

BloodWind is the first of the Demonwind trilogy. I am already rubbing my hands in anticipation of the next one in the series.

5 Stars

As ever, Ms Charlotte Boyette-Compo writes the most complex tormented hero. This is the book to read if you are sick of Vanilla Mr. Nice Guy romances with no plot, and nothing at stake. I find myself rooting for the hero, praying he will be able to defy the odds and find happiness. Ms. Compo is the most amazing author.

Romantic Interludes

5 Slippers

As always, Charlotte Boyett-Compo has written an amazing tangle of well-drawn believable characters, a tormented hero and heroine in situations where no happy solution could be possible. Through her pen, the magic of this alien world comes to life. Every character is so realistic and full of life that BLOODWIND is intensely moving. Superlative.

Mystique Books

Five Moons ~ Outstanding ~ Cosmic

“Futuristic Romance on a Mega-Scale!” I’ve never said that before. Why? I’ve never had to. But this, this FANTASTIC book is beyond words and I’m happy to crow that phrase. Filled with intergalactic politics, alien words and citizens, an anti-Hero to die for, and a believable, sympathetic Heroine, BLOODWIND is the best thing I have read in 2005 to date.

I was disappointed to learn that BLOODWIND had seen publication in 1999. I had hoped it was a 2005 book. How could something this magnificent have remained beneath the radar for so long? Where were we, lovers of Futuristic Romance, when this book arrived? Why didn’t this book come out from Dorchester’s Love Spell line? Well, ok, the Hero is a bit “darker” than they usually publish, but heck and fiddlesticks! This book is worthy of more than paper, glue, and a mass-market cover. It’s worth having “lights, camera, and action!” shouted its way!

This book begs to be turned into an action movie. If so, then I’ll be camping out when it’s due to show. Until then, however, I’ll have to console myself with the next in the series. And I can’t wait to get my paws on that one.

5.5 Wands

This fast-paced, action-packed book didn't have one dull moment. The story of Kamerone and Bridget's love, and their battle to free the women from the control of the Empire is laced with danger, betrayal, and death. I enjoyed this book and the world Ms. Boyett-Compo created, and all the twists and turns, and anguish she throws at Kamerone. This is not for the faint of heart as this is a dark story filled with much death.

5 Reapers out of 5!

I have read other books in this series and am constantly surprised by the depths of emotion that Charlotte Boyett-Compo is able to imbue in her characters and her plots. She is a master at taking a hero that begins as a monster and grinding him down into a man you can respect and care for. Kamerone Cree is a monster in the eyes of almost everyone, but by the end of the book he is a loving man who is willing to risk anything for the woman he loves. I was so pulled into the lives of these characters that I had a hard time letting go. Luckily there are a number of other books dealing with the Reapers and the consequences of the actions taken in this book. I gladly give this book the highest rating I can of 5 Reapers out of 5.

TRACY EASTGATE REVIEWS

Four Stars: Excellent, highly recommended

Captain Kamerone Cree. This is a name that strikes fear and terror deep into almost every heart on Rysalia and her planets. Captain Cree is called the Iceman behind his back, as no one would dare say it to his face. He is The Prime Reaper, a killer of all killers. A man with no emotions and a heart as cold as ice. And now he is angry, someone is out to try and ruin him and he is determined to find and stop them.

Dr. Bridget Dunne is a beautiful Terran scientist that works for the Ministry of Behavioral Modification. She works in the section called Be-Mod 9 where Cree is sent for Active Reinforcement treatment as punishment for something that he claims he did not do. She fears Cree but at the same time is fascinated by him. She hates what is done to him at the Unit and starts having mixed emotions about it. But how can she feel sorry for what is done to a sanctioned government killer?

They are thrown together and although they are resisting and fighting a growing attraction to each other, there are stronger powers working against them both. Each of them think they know who and why, but they are wrong. Dead wrong. Cree is being forced to try and gather the other Reapers and their forces into over-throwing the existing government, but what was suppose to be a fairly easy feat goes terribly wrong. Now Cree, Bridget and the others are fighting for their lives.

This is a fantastic book. The characters are strong and vivid. You can picture everything as events unfold. The words are written to fire your imagination and bring you into the book. The author has once again created a book that can t be put down until it is finished.

4.5 Ribbons

BLOODWIND is an action packed adventure that will take you on a journey of erotic pleasure. Kamerone Cree is a shape-shifter with an alpha attitude and a reputation to match. Bridget has to do what she’s told by her superiors and she has met her match in Kamerone. This tale takes a bit to get to the end, but the development of the characters and advancement of the plot makes it totally worth it. BLOODWIND is the first book in the WIND DEMON series and a wonderful start to what is sure to be an excellent combination of paranormal suspense and adventure.

JUST EROTIC ROMANCE REVIEWS

The first book in the WindDemon trilogy, BloodWind creates a vivid glimpse into a world filled with heartless killers and a society based on the slavery of women. I was completely engrossed by the detailed society rules and regulations behind the Rysalian Empire. What Cree endures to undue his years of indoctrination by the empire is heart wrenching. His complete obsession and fixation on Bridget feels just a little dangerous, while also being absolutely stimulating. A scene in which Bridget manipulates Cree’s emotions was infused with lust, excitement, and a little fear. Because Cree is so unpredictable, I never knew what he would do. Bridget is tenderhearted and her compassion makes her perfect in this story. This plot is infused with conniving, devious and often cruel characters that don’t care who they destroy on their way to mission-success. Overall, with an awe-inspiring futuristic plot and a heart-pounding love story, this first book in the WindDemon trilogy hits a home run.

"A PERFECT 10!"

Oh m'goodness!!! I have barely laid back the top layer of this exciting adventure. Plots within plots, danger behind every door, and reckless rescues carry along the action. Dozens of characters, friend and foe alike, inhabit the pages of BLOODWIND. We also get a complete account of how the Reapers were created. The writing is spectacularly splendid, the plotting is tight, plausible, and leaves the reader limp from all the emotions. There are some things, like the kind of love that Kamerone and Bridget learn to share, that malice cannot destroy. Reading Charlotte Boyett-Compo's Reaper Series is like being on wild, cosmic thrill rides. By my count, BLOODWIND is a Perfect 10, a space-opera fantasy at its finest.

AMAZON REVIEWS: J.M. Cornwell

4 Stars

The eternal battle of the sexes rages on and this time it is fought among the stars.

Charlotte Boyett-Compo mingles the threads of ancient Roman history with Celtic myths of vampires and highland music to forge a world, an Empire, and a love among the stars. Although Kamerone Cree, Rysalian Prime Reaper, and Dr. Bridget Dunne form the central focus of Bloodwind, they are the sword tip upon which a galaxy and an empire turns. Bridget, hungry for the comforts and familiarity of home, falls irrevocably for the animal she feared and hated in Cree, even to offering her life's blood to save him from death, until she is the Empire he willing sacrifices his principles and his way of life to preserve. Add a rebellion of women stolen from nearby systems and Earth divided against themselves and the stranglehold of a despotic empire which has grown fat on hate and fear and you have a tale of dark myth with an even darker end.
